Title:
METHOD FOR TESTING MAGNETIC DISK DEVICE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH05114265
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
PURPOSE:To detect a decline in the levitating height of a head due to a secular change so as to prevent the occurrence of the fault of a magnetic disk device by starting a levitating height adjusting program when the levitating height of a magnetic head becomes equal to or smaller than a threshold. CONSTITUTION:If the levitating height of a magnetic head against a magnetic disk becomes equal to or smaller than a preset threshold 101 when a host device performs input-output operations 100, it is reported to the host device as a input-output operation terminating status. Then a magnetic head levitating height adjusting program is started in accordance with an instruction issued by the host device based on the terminating status and the optimum magnetic head levitating height is obtained by performing magnetic head levitating operations several times. The optimum value is fed back to a magnetic disk device side. In addition, a decline in the magnetic head floating height caused by a secular change is monitored by starting a levitating height checking and testing program at arbitrary time intervals during system operation.
