PURPOSE: To prevent the oxidation of a reducing catalyst particle, in a fluidized layer type heavy oil treatment process, by using gas containing no oxidizable gas in gas for transferring a catalyst from a catalyst reducing process to a heavy oil decomposing and hydrogen forming process.
CONSTITUTION: Heavy oil 5 is supplied to a reactor 1 by steam 4 and decomposed under heating to be converted to gas, light oil and coke and, at the same time, a catalyst 18 is transferred to the reactor 1 through transfer pipes 13, 14 and reduced iron in the catalyst 18 and steam are reacted to generate hydrogen. The hydrogen-containing gas and light oil are separated in a purifying apparatus 6 and the gas is further separated into hydrogen 10 and light hydrocarbon gas 9 by a purifying apparatus 7. A part of this light hydrocarbon gas is raised in pressure by a compressor 33 and introduced into the catalyst particle transfer pipe 13 in a reactor 11 for treating coke. By this method, catalyst particles 18 in the reactor 11 are introduced into the reactor 1 through the transfer pipes 13, 14 by steam 20.
