Title:
METHOD FOR TREATING ANIMAL HORN BY HEATING AND PRESSURIZATION
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP2703751
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the organization, appearance, and durability of an animal horn by applying a specific temperature and pressure to the horn and rapidly cooling it with water.
SOLUTION: The large part of a sleep horn has an extremely thin, fragile, and shell-shaped organization and is curved and the surface organization contains rough and much impurity. When using this sort of sheep horn to manufacture a seal, first the piece of the sheep horn is cut to form blocks with the same size. Then, heating process is repeatedly applied to each block for softening the material. Then, the softened material is pressurized to gradually deform the block into cylindrical shape. In the series of processes, a heat which is equal to or more than 80°C and a force which is equal to or more than 500kg are applied to the horn and the horn is rapidly cooled after each process. In this case, after the final heating and pressurization, the horn should be coated with lacquer to improve appearance and to protect external surface.
