PURPOSE: To improve the visual angle characteristic of a liquid crystal display cell, by performing the rubbing treatment of the orientation film of the substrate for the liquid crystal display cell by relatively moving fine particles in a fixed direction against substrate on the orientation film.
CONSTITUTION: Magnetic particles 10 of very fine diameters are arranged on depressed sections 9 on the surface of an orientation film 6 and, when a magnet 11 is moved leftward as shown by the arrow, the particles 10 also move in the same direction and, when the magnet 11 is moved in the opposite direction, the particles 10 also move in the same direction. Therefore, when the magnet 11 makes reciprocating motions in the above-mentioned directions, the surface of the depressed sections 9 of the orientation film 6 can be rub-treated to every nook and corner by the magnetic particles 10. When the diameter of the particles 10 and magnetic force of the magnet 11 are appropriately selected, the particles 10 can rub the next depressed section 9 beyond the step difference 8 and the visual characteristic of this liquid crystal display cell can be improved.
