To provide a method for treating PCB waste capable of achieving the volume reduction of a treatment target and the reutilization of the treatment target as resources while minimizing the scale of a liquid treatment apparatus for treating PCB and capable of safely treating PCB.
The method for treating the PCB waste has a pretreatment process wherein PCB is extracted from the respective containers of a condenser and a transformer as PCB waste, the contents housed in the respective containers are respectively taken out, the content of the transformer is further separated into PCB impregnated matter and residual adhered non-impregnated matter and the respective containers of the condenser and the transformer and the non-impregnated matter of the transformer are subjected to washing treatment using a solvent, a plasma treatment process for subjecting the content of the condenser and the impregnated matter of the transformer to melting treatment in a plasma melting decomposition furnace 17 and further subjecting residual PCB, which is adhered to the content of the condenser, and PCB penetrated in the impregnated matter to decomposition treatment and a liquid treatment process for decomposing PCB extracted from the respective containers in the pretreatment process and PCB recovered by the washing treatment of the respective containers and the non-impregnated matter of the transformer.
