Abstract:

To provide methods for isolating from a reaction mixture a salt of a mono-propargylated aminoindane (rasagiline), which is a selective inhibitor of MAO-B and useful in treating Parkinson's disease etc.

Disclosed are production methods for isolating from a reaction mixture a salt of a mono-propargylated aminoindane having the specified structure. The production methods comprise a) adding an acid to the reaction mixture; b) crystallizing the mono-propargylated aminoindane under conditions suitable for formation of a crystalline salt of the mono-propargylated aminoindane; and c) recovering the crystalline salt of the mono-propargylated aminoindane. Also disclosed are crystalline diastereomeric salts and pharmaceutical compositions containing the salts.
