NEW MATERIAL:A compound shown by the formula I [R is aryl; Y is methylene, O, or COCH(COOR') group (R' is lower alkyl); m and n are 1 or 2].
EXAMPLE: 1-Methylthio-1-(p-tolylsulfonyl)cyclohexanone.
USE: Useful as an intermediate important in organic synthetic chemistry. For example, useful as an intermediate for synthesizing cyclic ketone.
PREPARATION: A methylthiomethylarylsulfone shown by the formula II is reacted with a dihalogen compound shown by the formula III [X is halogen or sulfonato; Y is methylene, O, COCH(COOR') group (R' is lower alkyl); m and n are 1 or 2] in the presence of a base (e.g., sodium hydride, sodium hydroxide, etc.) in a solvent such as tetrahydrofuran, toluene, at -20W100°C, to give a compound shown by the formula I .
