PURPOSE: To provide a small-sized photoelectron multiplying element of simple configuration.
CONSTITUTION: A photoelectron multiplexer element comprises a substrate 1, a photoelectron multiplying layer 3 formed by alternately laying thereupon 1 one-conductive type layers and semi-insulative layers consisting of III-V group, a photo-electric transducing layer 4 formed over the photoelectron multiplying layer, a hole 5 provided in the photoelectron multiplying layer 3 including the photo-electric transducing layer 4, a transparent member 6 formed upon the photo-electric transducing layer through blocking of the hole, and a means 7 to impress a voltage with the transparent member side of the photoelectron multiplying layer 3 as negative and with the substrate side as positive, wherein the hole 5 is put in vacuum state. Electromagnetic waves having passed through the transparent member 6 are turned into electrons by the photo-electric transducing layer, and these electrons are drawn within the vacuum hole 5 formed in the photoelectron multiplying layer 3 toward the substrate 1 on which a positive voltage is impressed, and run on the way against the one-conductive type layers 3a consisting of III-V group. This bombardment produces a secondary electron multiplying effect, which makes double the electrons emitted.
