PURPOSE: To obtain a microbiostatic agent which has a microbiostatic action against molds, and gram-negative bacteria and inhibits the propagation of aeromicroorganisms with reduced dose with no reaction with the material.
CONSTITUTION: The subject agent contains, as an active ingredient, an N- acyllactam of the formula (n is 1, 2; R is -H, -OH, -O-CH3, -Cl). The compound of the formula is obtained by reaction of a lactam with an acid anhydride or direct reaction of lactam with an acid halide. The microbiostatic agent of the formula may be used in the form of dust or oil or solution in an appropriate solvent, while the solution is most preferred from a view point of homogeneity. When the compound of the formula is used as a coating or surface-finish for construction, the amount of the compound of the formula is 0.01W0.1wt.% based on the agent.
