Abstract:
To increase immediate amplification of electrons striking input channel openings, to thereby increase first strike efficiency and an amount of electron gain or amplification of an MCP without adverse effects on voltage bias efficiency of a contact metal on input and output plate surfaces extending into input and output channel openings.SOLUTION: A night vision system along with an image intensifier tube having an MCP and a method of forming the MCP are provided. Each of channel sidewall surfaces near an input face of the MCP comprises a series of layers formed thereon. The input face of the MCP as well as the sidewall surfaces of each channel near the input face are configured with an electron backscatter layer arranged between a contact metal layer and a secondary electron booster layer. When formed partially into channel openings near the input face, the electron backscatter layer and the overlying secondary electron booster layer are configured circumferentially around the sidewall surfaces and extend radially inward toward a central axis of each channel.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
