Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate the cleaning of the end face of an optical fiber and to always accurately align the optical axis of the end face by providing a reference pin for positioning at one end of a pair of opposed optical fiber holding blocks and a pin for coupling at the other end thereof.
SOLUTION: Both blocks 100 and 102 are combined while fitting the reference pin 208 of the block 102 into the reference hole 222 of the block 100 and engaging the coupling pin 210 with a oblong hole 224, simultaneously. Then, machine screws 226 and 228 are screwed and tightened in the pins 208 and 210 from the side of the block 100. While both blocks 100 and 102 are positioned in a longitudinal direction by the pin 208, they are positioned in a width direction by the pin 210, so that the optical axes of the optical fibers 104 and 106 are accurately aligned and held. By unscrewing the machine screws 226 and 228 in the pins 208 and 210, both blocks 100 and 102 are easily disassembled, and the end faces of the optical fibers 104 and 106 are easily cleaned to remove stains.
