Abstract:
To provide a collagen fiber having excellent mechanical strength, biocompatibility, and immunity characteristics.SOLUTION: The disclosure relates to a biopolymer fiber containing collagen, the fiber including at least one of the following characteristics: ultimate tensile strength of about 1 MPa to about 1,700 MPa; modulus of elasticity of about 10 MPa to about 20,000 MPa, breaking elongation of about 2% to about 45%, and an average fiber diameter of about 10 μm to about 90 μm. The fiber, after being immersed in DPBS for at least about 1 hour at an ambient temperature, maintains the strength, and the filament shows an ordered, longitudinally-oriented structure. The biopolymer fiber has excellent ultimate tensile strength, modulus of elasticity, and breaking elongation comparable to human natural tendons and ligaments. The fiber may substantially circular, ovoid, square, rectangular, ribbon-like, triangular, or irregularly shaped.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
