A microscope apparatus includes: an observation optical system 70 for magnifying and observing the specimen; and an illuminating device 80 for emitting spot light serving as an index when the specimen is positioned within the field of view of the observing optical system 70 or for emitting illuminating light for illuminating the inside of the field of view of the observation optical system 70. The illuminating device 80 performs switching of the spot light and the illuminating light by changing a distance between an LED 36 and a lens section 40.
