A microscope for observing a sample through an object lens comprises: a stage on which the sample is placed; at least one movement designation means to designate a shift of a relative position between the stage and the object lens by a rotative motion of the movement designation means in a prescribed direction; movement designation detection means to detect at least any one of the following information concerning presence of a rotation, a direction of the rotation, or a rotation angle of the movement designation means, as movement designation information; movement designation comparison means to compare a first movement designation information detected at a first timing with a second movement designation information detected at a second timing; and driving means to move the stage and/or the object lens based on a comparison result by the movement designation comparison means.
