Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method for compensating fluctuating thermal expansion of rolls in the stand of a strip mill to obtain a strip having no defect of quater buckle.
SOLUTION: The mill stand has a pair of side-shiftable rolls with which a roll gap profile which is fluctuated along the length of the rolls is divided on the way by a 6th order polynomial equation, the flatness of the strip delivered from the mill stand is controlled by detecting the roll temperature profile and adjusting the side-shift position of the roll so as to compensate the expansion of the roll caused by the variation of roll temperature.
