Abstract:
To provide minimally invasive methods and apparatus that facilitate tissue excision and also facilitate a direct approach to anesthetizing the body wall of a patient, and also to disclose pull-type excision devices that introduce an opening in the body wall to provide access to surgical interventions within the chest ball, for example, to describe minimally invasive biopsy procedures for excision of target tissue from inside the patient, including nodules from inside the patient's lungs.SOLUTION: A method of excising target tissue, including: tensioning a catch wire from a proximal end thereof located adjacent a target tissue within a patient; and advancing an excision device along the catch wire against a counterforce applied by tensioning the catch wire to excise the target tissue.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 27
