PURPOSE: Title mixed ester dissolving rapidly in an alkaline liquid and giving high flexible coating films, which is prepared by reacting succinic anhydride and an aliphatic monocarboxylic anrydride with a specific cellulose ether.
CONSTITUTION: Esterification reaction is conducted by mixing 100 parts by wt of a cellulose ether substituted with alkyl and/or hydoxyalkyl groups with 100 W 2000 parts of a carboxylic acid as a reaction medium, 20 W 200 parts of a metal carboxylate and then a prescribed amount of succinic anhydride and an aliphatic monocarboxylic anhydride and heating them at 60 W 110°C for 2 W 25 hr. Then a large quantity of water is added to the reaction mixture to precipitate said mixed ester of acidic succinate and aliphatic monoacylate of cellulose ether
