To provide mobile radio equipment which reduces deterioration of transmission/reception characteristics in the case of housing a whip antenna within the casing even when a coil antenna on the top of the whip antenna is removed, and which has practically no projection from the casing.

When a whip antenna 3 equipped with an eye-pierce preventive ornamental ball 4 on its top is housed in a casing 1 in place of the coil antenna, an incorporated antenna 2 capable of transmitting/receiving operations is operated as a transmitter/receiver antenna and the whip antenna 3 is operated as a reception dedicated antenna. When the whip antenna 3 is pulled out of the casing 1, on the other hand, the incorporated antenna 2 is operated as the reception dedicated antenna, and the whip antenna 3 is operated as the transmitter/receiver antenna. Besides, whether the whip antenna 3 is housed within the casing 1 is detected by an antenna elongation/contraction detecting switch 7 for detecting the elongating/contracting state of the whip antenna 3, antenna functions of the incorporated antenna 2 and the whip antenna 3 are automatically switched and further, diversity receiving operation corresponding to a received field strength is enabled.
