Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide a light pulse which deformation is limited at adequate wavelength and repetition rate when being used as a pulse source. CONSTITUTION: The device comprises an optical guide 50 having a dispersed Bragg reflector DBR 160 disposed at specified distance from an output plane 20 so that an optical cavity 170 is defined by the back face 40 and DBR 160, and means 100 for feeding a modulation drive current to a semiconductor diode laser 10 at specified modulating frequency so as to mode-lock the semiconductor diode laser 10 to emit a light pulse at specified wavelength. The DBR 160 is formed so as to have a local period linearly varying along the optical guide and the laser 10 conforms with an operating frequency giving a cavity frequency matched with the modulation frequency and hence is as being self-aligned.
