Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain an insulating material such as power cables for ultra-high voltage having excellent impulse break down resistance by allowing a cross- linked low-density polyethylene for electric insulation to swell with an organic solvent, then removing the solvent to effect efficient modification

CONSTITUTION: Cross-linked, or uncross-linked low-density polyethylene for electric insulation is allowed to swell with an organic solvent, then the components in the polyethylene extractable with the solvent, preferably in an amount of 0.1 to 20wt.%, based on the polyethylene and the organic solvent are removed from the swollen polyethylene to modify the polyethylene for electric insulation.
