Abstract:
To provide polymers suitable for coating products, devices, and surfaces and for encapsulation and implantation of cells, where the polymers have longer term biocompatibility or less foreign body response following implantation.SOLUTION: The invention provides a composition including a capsule. The capsule includes a cross-linked hydrogel, has a mean diameter of 150 μm to 5 cm, and has a biological material encapsulated therein. The cross-linked hydrogel includes a modified alginate polymer including one or more covalently modified monomers defined by Formula I in the figure.SELECTED DRAWING: None
