Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain a new modified copolymer rich in adhesivity, printability, hydrophilicity, polymer modifying properties, etc., by copolymerizing an α-olefin with a cyclic polyene and then modifying the resultant produced random copolymer.
CONSTITUTION: The objective copolymer is obtained by initially copolymerizing a 3-12C α-olefin (preferably propylene) with a cyclic polyene of formula I or II [R1 to R20 are H, halogen or 1-20C hydrocarbon; m and n are ≥0; R is alkenyl or alkylidene] (e.g. dicyclopentadiene) in the presence of a catalyst, providing a crystalline olefinic random copolymer having 10-6 to 20mol% content of polyene unit, 0.01-20dl/g intrinsic viscosity in decalin at 135°C and ≤3.5 molecular weight distribution measured by the gel permeation chromatography and units selected from formulas III and IV derived from the cyclic polyene without any portion insoluble in the decalin at 135°C and then introducing a functional group into ≥5mol% unsaturated bonds in the copolymer.
