To obtain a modifier for paper, suitable as an improver of an interlaminar strength, and an improver of a paper strength such as a burst strength for a multilayered combination paper by formulating a water-soluble polysaccharides at least containing alginic acid with an acrylamide-based polymer.
This modifier for paper comprising at least 0.1-50 wt.% water-soluble polysaccharides at least containing alginic acid, and 99.9-50 wt.% (meth) acrylamide-based polymer. The water-soluble saccharides at least containing the alginic acid are obtained by copolymerizing (meth)acrylamide with a cationic vinyl monomer, e.g. (dimethylaminoethyl (meth)acrylate and a polyfunctional vinyl monomer, e.g. di(meth)acrylate in the presence of the water-soluble polysaccharides at least containing the alginic acid to provide the (meth) acrylamide-based polymer.
