To simply obtain a long life mold for press molding, having a supersmooth surface and a highly precise fine pattern or superprecise shape, by forming a protecting film comprising one or more kinds of metals such as W, Pt, Pd or Rh or their alloys on the press-molding surface of a base material through a primer layer comprising the components of the base material and the components of the protecting film.
A thin film-like protecting film 3 comprising one or more kinds of elements such as W, Pt, Pd, Rh, Ru, Ir, Os, Re and Ta or their alloys is formed on the press-molding surface of a press-molding mold base material 1 such as a cemented carbide through a primer layer 2. Therein, the primer layer 2 comprises components contained in the base material and components contained in the protecting film 3. The primer layer on the base material comprising glass having a smooth surface, a fine pattern surface, an optical glass element shape surface, etc., preferably comprises one of SiC, SiN and SiO2 and components contained in the protecting film.
