Title:
MOLDED ARTICLE OF VITRIFIED CARBONACEOUS MATERIAL
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS60171206
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide very high smoothness to the surface of a molded article of a vitrified carbonaceous material contg. micropores by mirror polishing by adjusting the diameter of the micropores in the molded article to a specified value or below.

CONSTITUTION: A thermosetting resin having ≥20wt% water solubility at 300W 8,000cps viscosity at 25°C is cured, and it is carbonized and calcined at ≥800°C in an inert atmosphere to obtain a molded article of a vitrified carbonaceous material contg. micropores of ≤0.1μm diameter. The molded article contains practically no closed pores in the internal structure, and it is practically nonporous. When the molded article is subjected to mirror polishing, very high smoothness is provided to the surface. Phenol resin, epoxy resin, furan resin, urea resin or the like is used as the thermosetting resin.
