To obtain a molded item which exhibits moisture-absorbing function and a reduced heat of combustion in disposal after use while retaining its low density, heat insulation effect, and strengths by agglomerating a mixture of many beads having a structure contg. pulp as the main backbone and having voids with beads of a thermoplastic resin foam.
A mixture of many beads contg. pulp as the main backbone and having voids in the inside with beads of a foam consisting mainly of a thermoplastic resin is agglomerated to give a molded item. Pref., the beads contg. pulp as the backbone is prepd. by using, as the main materials of the three-dimensional network, pulp contg. regenerated pulp and a thickener having bonding properties deactivated by hydrolysis and contains air bubbles in the inside. Pulp beads are bonded to each other to form an agglomerate, e.g. by spraying an adhesive to their surfaces or by utilizing a coating layer formed in advance on pulp beads.
