To provide various molding materials for plastic mirrors formed from specific polycarbonate resins each excellent in water absorption resistance, flexural modulus and heat resistance, and to provide substrates for plastic mirrors molded from the materials and plastic mirrors composed of the substrates.
The molding material for plastic mirrors is substantially formed from an aromatic polycarbonate resin, wherein (a) 9,9-bis(3-methyl-4-hydroxyphenyl)fluorene (component a) and (b) 2,2-bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)propane (component b) comprise at least 80 mol% of total aromatic dihydroxy compounds, and a molar ratio of component (a) to component (b) is 20:80-70:30. The polycarbonate resin is formed from a resin which satisfies (A) a glass transition temperature of 160°C-230°C, (B) a water absorption after immersion in water at 23°C for 24 hours of 0.2 wt% or less, and (C) a flexural modulus of 2,500 MPa-3,500 MPa. The substrates for plastic mirrors are molded from the materials. The plastic mirrors are composed of the substrates.
