PURPOSE: To make the content of remaining hydrogen constant by a method wherein inflow molten metal is guided to the central part of a main body provided with a plurality of porous plugs through a passage partitioned by baffles to mix the molten metal by the fine bubbles of treating gas discharged through the porous plugs.
CONSTITUTION: Molten metal, which flows into a molten metal treating device, enters a passage, consisting of baffles 18 and the side walls of a main body unit 12, through a molten metal inflow opening 14. The molten metal is pretreated by the ventilation of treating gas, blown through a part of porous plugs 17 while flowing therethrough. The pretreated molten metal is sent to the central part of the main body of the treating device through an opening consisting of the notched part of baffles 18 and the side walls of the main body unit 12. The molten metal is degassed here so as to attain a predetermined degree by the ventilation of treating gas blown thereinto through a multitude of porous plugs 17. In this case, generated floating dross is collected to a slag out port 16 by blowing inert gas out of dross removing porous plugs provided on the side wall of the main body unit 12 near the level of the molten metal to slag out it.
