Abstract:
To provide a monitoring device that can appropriately monitor a driver by changing a criterion for monitoring the driver in accordance with a surrounding situation of a vehicle.SOLUTION: A monitoring device detects a predetermined type of nearby objects present in a predetermined region around a vehicle on the basis of environment information representing an environment surrounding the vehicle, and determines a level of surroundings monitoring by a driver on the basis of information representing a status of the driver. When the number of nearby objects detected in the predetermined region is less than a threshold value of the number of objects, the monitoring device sets a carelessness threshold value serving as a norm for the level of surroundings monitoring by the driver at a first value, and when the number of nearby objects is equal to or greater than the threshold value of the number of objects, it sets the carelessness threshold value at a second value smaller than the first value. The monitoring device determines whether or not the level of surroundings monitoring by the driver exceeds the carelessness threshold value, and provides the driver with a warning via a notification unit so as to direct the driver's attention to the surroundings of the vehicle if it is determined that the level of surroundings monitoring by the driver exceeds the carelessness threshold value.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
