PURPOSE: To provide a monitoring method by a television camera which can facilitate a counter measure to the change of a light from an outside, judge the movement of an object, and project only a picture to be monitored on a CRT.
CONSTITUTION: This method has the process of compressing the picture photographed by a television camera 10, the process of searching a difference picture by comparing the compressed picture with the picture corresponding to it at a normal time, the process of searching the distribution of the characteristic amounts of the difference picture, and searching a threshold value from the distribution, the process of extracting picture elements beyond the threshold value from the difference picture, the process of grouping the extracted picture elements, the process of searching the area, center of gravity, and luminance of each group, and the process of judging the moving direction of the object in the picture based on the area, center of gravity, and luminance, and projecting the picture from the television camera 10 on a CRT 16 when it is matched with the preliminarily set condition of the movement of the object. Then, each process is cyclically repeated.
