To provide a monitoring system which enables speech calling from an outside line etc. to a place where a child put to bed wakes up.
The system has a terminal device 2, provided with a sound pressure level detection means 10 for detecting a sound pressure level in a monitoring zone and an nonstationary signal output means 12 for outputting a nonstationary signal when the sound pressure level exceeds a prescribed value, and a CPU 1. The terminal device 2 and the CPU 1 are respectively provided with a data communication means and a speech communication means. The CPU 1 is provided with a public line connection means 6. When receiving the nonstationary signal from the terminal device 2, the connection means 6 connects it with a telephone set of an outside line registered in advance, transmits a prescribed message corresponding to an nonstationary state and thereafter, connects the speech communication means 4 to the telephone set of the outside line. Thus, speech calling is performed between the terminal device and the outside telephone.
