NEW MATERIAL:The compound of formula (R is H or methyl).

USE: Useful as a water-repellent, oil-repellent, mold-releasing agent, antifouling agent, resin modifier, optical fiber protecting agent, selective permeable membrane, etc.

PREPARATION: The compound of formula can be produced by reacting pentafluorobenzylamine with a (meth)acryloyl halide. A homopolymer or copolymer having a number-average molecular weight of 1,000W1,000,000 can be produced from the compound of formula by conventional radical polymerization. The monomer copolymerizable with the compound of formula is e.g. (meth) acrylic acid, itaconic acid and maleic acid. Since the compound of formula has the polymerizability of (meth)acryloyl group, it can be easily polymerized and the obtained fluorine-containing polymer has excellent moldability and various functions such as water-repellency and antifouling property originated from the contained fluorine atom. A modified polymer can be produced by the copolymerization with other monomers.
