PURPOSE: To enable high speed preparation of a mosaic unit picture pattern by compiling or preparing a mosaic unit picture pattern responsive to an image address and carrying a tile to the tile image address of the mosaic unit picture pattern.

CONSTITUTION: A video signal. 3 generated by taking a picture of a painting 1 is converted into a picture pattern 7 within a color pixel series responsive to the tile dimension used by an image pattern memory device 4 and stored in a color storing address. Said video signal 3 is compiled and synthesized by another purpose usable pattern generator 4a built in a pattern memory device 4 of a personal computer system 8 and then, stored in an external memory device 10. Further, said picture patterns are obtained by taking said video signal from the external memory device 10 or directly from the computer system 8 and feeding said patterns to a mosaic unit tile carrier 11, and further converting the tile 12n for each color into picture patterns 7 via an image pattern code 9 along with aligning said tile 12n to an aligning panel 13.
