The motion toy comprises a swinging mechanism A for oscillating an upper body 2 in the vertical direction, a sensor 5 for detecting sound, and a control part 6 for operating/controlling the swinging mechanism A based on the result of detection by the sensor 5. In the initial state, the control part 6 operates the swinging mechanism A so that the upper body is tilted forward. When sound is detected by the sensor 5, the control part 6 operates the swinging mechanism A and oscillates the upper body 2 in the vertical direction after raising the upper body. When sound is not detected by the sensor 5, the control part 6 operates the swinging mechanism A and controls the swinging mechanism A so that the upper body 2 is tilted forward.
