Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a motion vector coder in which a coding efficiency of a motion vector is furthermore improved by obtaining an optimum prediction value of the motion vector.
SOLUTION: This coder includes a variance calculation section 20 that calculates a variance of a reference motion vector to generate a 1st or 2nd selection signal, a median filter 25 deciding a 1st prediction value, a minimum deviation selection section 40 that decides a 2nd prediction value SP, a prediction value decision section 50 that calculates the number of coded bits obtained by coding a current motion vector with respect to each of the 1st and 2nd prediction values to decide a 3rd prediction value, a switch 45 that selects the 1st or 2nd prediction value as an optimum prediction value in response to the 1st or 2nd selection signal, and a difference value coding section 55 that codes the current motion vector data with respect to the optimum prediction value to generate coded motion vector data.
