Abstract:
This drive device has: a first inverter (3) connected to first ends (1ua, 1va, 1wa) of a plurality of windings (1u, 1v, 1w) of an electric motor (1); a second inverter (4) connected to second ends (1ub, 1vb, 1wb) of the plurality of windings (1u, 1v, 1w); and a short-circuiting circuit (5) for connecting the second ends (1ub, 1vb, 1wb) to each other. In the drive device, the electric motor is driven in either a star connection mode in which the short-circuiting circuit (5) is turned on to short-circuit the second ends to each other and AC voltages output from the first inverter are applied to the first ends, or a cooperative operation mode in which the short-circuiting circuit (5) is turned off, the AC voltages output from the first inverter are applied to the first ends, and AC voltages output from the second inverter are applied to the second ends. This makes it possible to switch the windings of the electric motor at high speed and to reduce power loss.
