To provide a motor drive system and a motor drive method, capable of suppressing the magnitude of regenerative capacitance in a stop operation of a motor.
A motor drive system comprises: a deceleration rate calculation device for calculating, for a reduction rate of the number of revolutions of a motor, a variable-deceleration rate set so that regenerative capacitance of a voltage supply device required for conversion from a regenerative DC voltage to an AC voltage has a constant value, and a constant-deceleration rate having a constant reduction rate set so that the motor stops in a predetermined stop time; and a control device for controlling a motor drive device to decelerate the motor according to the variable-deceleration rate from starting of a stop operation of the motor until a time when the number of revolutions of the motor becomes the same between at the variable-deceleration rate and at the constant-deceleration rate, and then decelerate the motor according to the constant-deceleration rate.
