To provide a bottle containing a barrier layer made of an EVOH (ethylene-vinyl alcohol), which bottle is improved to prevent the EVOH from melting from the end face of the bottle mouth into contents when the bottle is subjected to retort sterilization.

The bottle 1 including the barrier layer 3 made of an ethylene-vinyl alcohol (EVOH) copolymer is subjected to retort sterilization to provide a bottle adapted for retort treatment. The mouth 2 of the bottle 1 is so shaped that the end face 2a of the mouth 2 faces outside or upside, which causes a seal 5 or a cap 6 put on the mouth 2 to cut off the end face 2a from the interior of the container (bottle) 1.
