PURPOSE: To move the arm in an arbitrary position with single operating part and facilitate music selection operation of record discs by moving the arm in the directions and at the distances corresponding to the moving direction and moving quantity of the operating part by controlling driving part.

CONSTITUTION: When the moving direction and moving quantity of the arm of a player are set through manual operation by means of the operating knob 4 and operating piece 6 of an operating part 8, the revolution and movement quantity thereof are transmitted to a shaft 10 via small diameter pulley 12 from the large diameter pulley 9 at the bottom end of an operating shaft 3. The detection signal by a circular slit plate 16 for detection of rotating quantity and rotating direction provided to the small diameter pulley shaft 10 and an optical detecting part 15 composed of a pair of light emitting diode and photo transistor or the like disposed with said plate in-between is transmitted to a control circuit part. In the control circuit part, the moving direction of the operating part is discriminated and the output corresponding to the movement quantity is instructed to the driving part, which in turn moves the arm of the player.
