PURPOSE: To simplify the circuit constitution of a multi-gradation liquid crystal display device by making a gradation display with one source voltage.

CONSTITUTION: The voltage from a driving power source 2 is applied to a data line 4 selected by a shift register 20 through an external signal line 1 and electric charges are accumulated in a capacity part 5 connected to the data line 4 through a switching element 3. The switching element 3 has its conduction time controlled according to a gradation signal D and the amount of the charges accumulated in the capacity part is varied according to the gradation signal to control a potential applied to liquid crystal through the data line 4 according to the gradation signal.
