To prepare a new contact lens care multi-purpose solution which achieves desired treatment of a lens and provides enhanced comfort and acceptability for a lens wearer.
The multipurpose solution is used for contact lens care and contains: an aqueous liquid medium; an antibacterial component selected from a biguanide, a biguanide polymer, and a salt and a mixture thereof; a poly(oxyethylene)-poly(oxypropylene) block copolymer surfactant; a phosphoric acid buffer component; hydroxypropylmethyl cellulose; a chelating agent; and a tonicity component. The multipurpose solution has an improved performance as a whole compared to other multi-purpose solutions each containing: an aqueous liquid medium; polyhexamethylene biguanide; a 0.5 ppm poly(oxyethylene)-poly(oxypropylene) substitute ethylendiamine surfactant; a phosphoric acid buffer system, and 0.1% ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid disodium and a sodium chloride tonicity agent.
