PURPOSE: To obtain a multicolor optical filter prevented from peeling of films, elution, decoloration, opacification, etc., and superior in heat resistance, by coating the surface of said filter with an overcoat layer formed by photohardening a polymer having specified groups to protect it.
CONSTITUTION: Color filter elements having ≥2 colors are regularly arranged on a support 10 composed of the substrates of solid-state image pickup elements to form a multicolor filter 16, and its surface is coated with a polymer of the formula as shown in which R is H, alkyl, cyano, or aryl. Then, it is exposed to UV rays except the parts of the filter 16 corresponding to the parts 12 of the bonding pads of the substrate to photoharden the polymer and form an overcoat layer 17. The present multicolor optical filter is obtained by removing the polymer at said unexposed parts.
