Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide a fabric for gamma ray-resistant medical uses and a multiconstituent fiber for manufacturing such a fabric.
CONSTITUTION: This multiconstituent fiber comprises a main continuous linear low density polyethylene phase and at least one discontinuous phase dispersed through the main continuous phase as domains, and at least about 70 wt.% of the latter has about 0.05-0.3 μm diameter and the latter comprises at least one polymer selected from the group consisting of poly(propylene-co-ethylene) copolymers and polypropylene.
