To provide a new multifilament intended for producing using synthetic fiber a pile fabric with straightness resembling natural mohair, and to obtain such a natural mohair-toned pile fabric using the above new multifilament.
This pile fabric is obtained by the following practice: piles are knitted using multifilaments consisting of synthetic fiber with a combination of (A) shrinkable synthetic fiber 3.3-33 dtex in single filament fineness and 20-50% in dry heat shrinkage at 140°C with (B) non-shrinkable synthetic fiber 3.3-33 dtex and ≤5% in boiling water shrinkage in the weight ratio A/B of (10-90) : (90-10) and having a total fineness of 110-833 dtex and the number of twists of ≤150 turns/m, and the length of the resultant piles is adjusted to 5-100 mm followed by heat treatment to shrink the shrinkable synthetic fiber A to effect manifesting level difference in the pile portion.
