PURPOSE: To obtain a magnetoresistance effect element having high sensitivity for detection of a magnetic field and to obtain a composite type magnetic head practically useful by combining this element with an induction-type magnetic head having recording ability.
CONSTITUTION: A magnetoresistance effect film has a multilayered structure obtd. by alternately deposition magnetic metal layers 3, antiferromagnetic layers 4 and nonmagnetic metal layers 5, with each one or more layers, and at least two or more magnetic metal layers 3 are adjacent to the antiferromagnetic layers 4 so that the magnetic metal layers 3 is given an exchange bias magnetic field from the exchange interaction with the antiferromagnetic layers 4. Or, the magnetic metal layers 3 are formed in contact with the antiferromagnetic layers 4 in the multilayered magnetoresistance effect film so that the magnetic metal layers 3 are given the exchange bias magnetic field by the exchange interaction with the antiferromagnetic layers 4 and that the direction of the exchange bias magnetic fields differs for each magnetic metal layer 3.
