PURPOSE: To obtain a multiple speed roller capable of controlling both tracking error and shape, by dividing a roller face by the same shaft center and driving each face independently.
CONSTITUTION: The relation between a stator and a rotor of a three-phase induction motor is completely inverted, and a shaft 1 having a cable 5 penetrated into an into an inside hollow part is used as fixed shaft. A primary winding 2 is wound on the outside of this shaft 1, and a secondary conductor is assembled in the roller side, corresponding to each roller face 4 to constitute a multiple speed roller. Using this multiple speed roller, the edge position is detected by edge detector ED1, ED2, and the measurements are compared in a comparator COM, of which result is inputted into a correction amount arithmetic unit AR to compute the speed ratio of each roller M1, M2, M3, M4. These computed outputs SM1WSM4 are multiplied by the line speed VO of the motor at roller RO in multippliers MUL1W4, of which products are inputted in VV/VF control devices VVVF1W4,0 to generate specified frequency. As a result, the motors M1WM4, M0 are driven in each roller, so that tracking may be controlled.
