In the multiplex communication apparatus 10 for vehicle for connecting a plurality of electronic control units 11 connected through a bus 12 for multiplex communication through a relay connection unit 20 and relaying communication of the electronic control units 11 by the relay connection unit 20, the relay connection unit 20 is provided, as a detecting means for communication abnormality, with a counter 21b for counting the number of message frames received from the electronic control unit through the bus 12 in each ID (identifier) attached to each message frame, and a counter value checking means 22b for comparing the counted number of the counter 21b with preset reference value per unit time to determine that the message frame is communication abnormality.
