Abstract:
To provide a new usage, with the goal of preventing skeletal muscle atrophy, for a specific polyphenol having an action for inhibiting the expression of a gene that causes muscular atrophy.
A composition having an action for inhibiting muscular atrophy and containing a polyphenol selected from delphinidin, delphinidin glucoside, epigallocatechin gallate, and EGCG is provided. The composition has an action for inhibiting muscular atrophy by inhibiting the expression of a gene that causes muscular atrophy, such as MuRF1.
