Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide a novel N-alkylamidealkanol having low irritativity against skins and having an excellent foam-increasing effect for a wide range of surfactants.
CONSTITUTION: A compound is represented by formula I (R1 is linear or branched 6-22C alkyl, alkenyl, hydroxyalkyl, linear or branched alkylphenyl (the alkyl has a carbon atom number of 8-12); R2 is H, linear or branched 1-22C alkyl, alkenyl, hydroxyalkyl, alkylphenyl; R3 is linear or branched 1-5C alkylene; R1 is linear or branched 2-3C alkylene; n is 0-50), e.g. N-decyl-4-hydroxy-2- methylpentaneamide. The compound is obtained by reacting an amine of formula II with a lactone of formula III and, if necessary, further reacting the product with an alkyleneoxide of formula IV. A surfactant containing the compound is useful not only for cleansers used for hair, bodies and dishes but also for face cleansers, cleansers for housings, etc., because of having low irritativity and high safety in addition to excellent foamability.
