Substituted N-aminomethylhaloacetanilides of the formula where R1 and R2 are each C1-C2-alkyl, R3 is hydrogen or C1-C4-alkyl, R4 is cyano or -CO-NH2, R5 is C1-C6-alkyl and X is halogen, are used for controlling undesirable plant growth.
